Believe me when I tell you I understand how hard it is to get a job in this country. I totally understand. However, there are a few tricks you could use to get a job. And not just any job, the job you want! Sometimes the problem isn’t that there aren’t vacancies (after all vacancies are posted here daily), the problem usually is that you do not strategically position yourself. So in this article, I’ll share with you exclusive tips on how to get a job. These tips worked for me, it should work for you too
1. Make a list of services you can offer:
To do this, ask yourself: what can I do? What skills do I have? What services can I offer? What benefits can I offer my potential employees? When you answer these questions, make a list of your answers, then
2. Make a list of places that need those services:
So for example, you write really well. Make a list of companies or firms that need the services of a writer. It could be magazines, publishers, bloggers, advertisers, journalists, editorial firms, newspapers etc. Make a list of these places then ask yourself;
3. Where would I like to work amongst these places?
This reduces your options, but doesn’t limit them. Using the same skill mentioned above- writing, let’s say you’d prefer to write for a magazine. Make a list of magazines you’d love to write for and
4. Send out applications whether or not a vacancy is announced to those places you’d love to work:
I’d like to say this is the most important on the list because what’s the use of going through the first three tips without doing this? However others are equally important. After you’ve done 1-3 above, send out applications to those places you’d love to work. Best way to do this is manually, especially when vacancies weren’t published online. Request to see the HR, and if your CV is convincing enough and you make a good impression, you will be the FIRST to be invited for an interview as soon as there’s a vacancy in that position. Even if there isn’t, one could be created for you.
These tips I shared are based on experience. As a job seeker some years ago, I did these. After searching blindly for a job for a really long time, I decided to re-strategize. I came up with this strategy and it worked well for me. Within two weeks of doing this, I got invited for 7 interviews, got 5 job offers and of course, I took the one which best suited my needs then.
P.S: your skills/services could be as many as possible. However go for the ones you’re best at. This way, you offer incredible value. Also, the places you’re willing to offer your services shouldn’t be limited to just one industry. Using the example of a chef, you can decide to work in a hospital or restaurant or in homes. It mustn’t be one place. In fact, it shouldn’t be.
